What are common causes of neck injury?
Neck pain is a common symptom of neck injury. Neck pain can be caused by many different things, and it is important to know the possible causes of neck injury in order to better treat them.
Causes of neck injuries:
Sitting with your head tilted forward for too long (such as when you're reading or using a computer)
Poor posture while sitting or standing
A sudden movement that stretches the ligaments in your neck too far
Injuries from sports or other physical activities (such as car accidents, falls, or contact sports)
The neck consists of seven vertebrae that are stacked on top of each other. It also has a few joints and ligaments that help to keep the spine stable. Neck pain is often caused by strains to the neck muscles, joints, or ligaments.
Treatment for neck pain includes resting the neck, applying heat or ice packs, using over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen, and performing gentle stretches and exercises.
How to help yourself in pain?
It is important to take care of your neck, especially if you have suffered from a previous injury. You should do some exercises to strengthen the muscles around your neck and avoid any unnecessary strain on your neck.
There are many exercises that one can do to avoid such injuries. One of them is called "The Wall Hang". In this exercise, you need to place your hands against the wall at shoulder height with fingers pointing towards you and hold for 30 seconds, then do it again for 10-15 repetitions.
Risks of a neck injury include:
Stiffness
Pain
Numbness
Difficulty moving the head
Possible paralysis
The best way to avoid neck injury is to take proper care of it. This includes using a headrest at all times, avoiding excessive head tilting, and getting up from the desk every hour.
It is also important to use ergonomic equipment like keyboard trays and ergonomic chairs. These allow you to keep your shoulders in a neutral position and your head in line with your spine.
